How can we care for the men in our lives?

Most people, when they think about self-care would automatically envision a woman pampering herself with a candlelit bubble bath, but self-care is a lot more than just pampering yourself. Self care is simply the act of taking time to focus on yourself and it is something men should put into practice too. Society’s expectations and traditional gender roles play a huge part in why men are less likely to discuss or seek help for physical or mental health problems. A lot of men seem to place their own well-being at the very bottom of the priority list. A recent study showed 65% of men avoided going to the doctor’s for physical and mental health problems.

Tips to support yourself or the men in your life

-Talk regularly to friends and family

-Eat and drink well

– Exercise regularly

– Make time for yourself. Even if you have a busy life/job, you can’t care for anyone else if you’re not first taking care of yourself.

-Local support groups are available or speak to a GP if you are struggling.

” I think the key to it all is never keeping it in and never thinking that the right thing to do is to keep it in.”

~Steven Gerrard

Realise it’s ok to speak out, ask for help, you are not alone.
